WHY READ ALOUD?

 

When we stop to consider the broad areas that can be stimulated by reading aloud, one can only wonder why reading aloud isn't done in all homes as well as classrooms. Reading aloud can:

 

Reinforce lifelong reading

Enlarge vocabulary

Allow for shared experiences

Demonstrate connections between oral and written language

Arouse the imagination

Lead to knowledge about books and authors

Offer opportunities for active listening

Utilize a variety of language

Develop achievement potential
